Copaleras are central to many rituals across Mexico, both public and intimate. They mark the presence of the magical and embody the emotional archaeology of ceremony: the burning of copal and fragrant herbs, purifying both place and participants. First conceived for Ceremonia: Utilitarian Objects, Music, Rituals, and Concheros at Venice Design 2019, they inaugurated ACOOCOORO’s expanding Ceremonia research line.
