Ernesto Gómez Gallardo was a visionary architect and designer whose work helped shape the language of modern Mexico. Known for his mastery of modularity and material efficiency, his designs spanned everything from iconic classroom chairs at UNAM to public benches still found in Mexico’s plazas today.
For Gómez Gallardo, furniture was never an afterthought — it was architecture in miniature. His own home in San Jerónimo Lídice stands as a total work of design, where space, object, and form exist in unified conversation.
Design
Conceived in 1972, the Moebius Sofa series translates Ernesto Gómez Gallardo’s fascination with geometry into form. Inspired by the continuous loop of a Moebius strip, each variation expresses a singular sculptural rhythm. The flowing lines create an interplay of structure and void, balancing mathematical abstraction with intimate comfort. A bold study in continuity, the series merges concept and craft with elegant clarity. The Individual Sofa transforms seating into an organic loop — compact, fluid, and unexpectedly intimate.
